The History Of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Iowa State
Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s journey at Iowa State began in 1905, with the Dragon Society seeking petition to become a chartered chapter of the national Sigma Alpha Epsilon Organization. This group of 17 young men were at the forefront of bringing greek life back to Iowa State after President William Beardshear had banned any new greek organizations on campus, letting the students in the existing fraternity and sorority to graduate and then closed those chapters. With the housing crisis of 1902, The Dragon Society approached President Albert Storms and convinced him to let greek organizations back on campus. By 1905, they would obtain the charter from SAE nationals. From there, SAE has been an integral part of Iowa State through the years. From housing soon-to-be officers during WWII to writing the Iowa State fight song, the men of SAE at Iowa State have always pushed themselves to be respectable individuals.
